This week we meet the Little Gnome at his bookshop, along with his humans, Bel and Jack. I popped in a couple of times to have a chat and capture some photos. There was such a great vibe going on in the place. Books, coffee, great company and Wynnum, what more could you ask for!
The business has been going for approximately 2 years, and it definitely feels a permanent part of the Wynnum landscape. I loved the fact that some people have their own cups, with their name on it, kept at the shop, for when they pop by. I had a great time chatting about books, soccer, music and the local area with the 3 of them!
Over to the Little Gnome crew.
Love the facade, lots to grab the attention!
The three proprietors
What brought you to the area?
We’ve lived in Wynnum for 8 years. Loved it from day one. We chose our home in Wynnum North, because it was still surrounded by the original neighbours of the owner, so being in their late seventies, early eighties, they had so much history to pass on. We love the bay, the view and the community spirit here.
Such a cute and photogenic mascot of the store
Love the personalised mugs!
Do you have any interesting or memorable experiences in Wynnum that you would like to share?
I think getting to know the amazing people we meet. Particularly those who have lived here their whole lives. The stories you hear, regardless of how old they are, are full of so much history. Characters past and present, are remembered by each person, in a different light. It’s fascinating.
A lot of books to ponder and had to remind myself to stop spine gazing!
A young customer agreed to pose for a photo. He had an awesome name!
What would you love to see in Wynnum?
The State and federal government need to see the potential the bay has to offer. More tourism orientated activities. A purpose built jetty with a carnival at the end. We also need to find a way to make the Wynnum CBD more connected to the water.
Little Gnome’s humans ready for chat with a smile
I enjoyed the coffee. A lot!

Supporters of independent authors is a core philosophy of the business
Who or What would you like me to cover in future posts on When in Wynnum?
We have an amazing customer named Christina MacDonald. She is quite possibly the most fascinating human I’ve ever met. Incredibly bright and has lived a fascinating life.
